BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (November 10, 2011) – Whether you are driving wet, slushy highways to visit grandma or taking the family on a winter ski vacation, UAB Critical Care Transport (CCT) is reminding travelers to be prepared for the possibility of illness or injury while away from home. Common travel issues include car accidents, activity-related injuries, infectious diseases and blood clots from long periods of sitting in a plane or car. Often holiday travelers find themselves in a hospital far from home. “When the worst does happen, travelers want to be treated by doctors they know at a hospital they trust. That’s where we come in, we fly them home to UAB for care,” said CCT Medical Director Dr. Kevin Barlotta.

UAB CCT has partnered with Birmingham-based Air Ambulance Card, LLC to offer discounted air evacuation memberships to UAB faculty, staff and students. Under the partnership, members who are sick or injured 150 miles or more from home, domestically or internationally, will be flown home to the hospital of their choice. CCT will be the provider of choice for members who join under the partnership. Air Ambulance Card has set up a special website for UAB community at AirAmbulanceCard.com/uab where they can sign in with a valid UAB email address to enroll at special rates or find more information.

UAB Critical Care Transport is a hospital based, inter-facility transport program for patients in the United States and worldwide that require transport from one medical facility to another. Critical Care Transport has been providing medical transports for over 28 years and has transported over 37,000 patients. Jet aircraft intensive care units provide top notch support during long distance patient transports.

Air Ambulance Card provides travelers with prepaid hospital-to-hospital air ambulance service, domestically and abroad. The membership program offers services for a period of one year to families or individuals, and corporate accounts. Air Ambulance Card’s discounted UAB memberships cost $130 (a $65 savings) per year for individuals and $200 (a $95 savings) per year for families. For more information visit www.AirAmbulanceCard.com/uab.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. October 26, 2011) – Medical evacuation membership program Air Ambulance Card announced it has completed a successful transport from Toledo, Spain. Sally Moninger is recovering from surgery at home in Loveland, Colorado, after breaking her ankle during a fall down the stairs in her hotel. Moninger was first treat for injuries in a hospital in Spain, but she and her husband were concerned about the quality of care and a significant language barrier.

“We couldn’t speak the language at all, it was a Castilian Spanish, and we just couldn’t get any of it,” said Bill Moninger. What they did understand was that the doctor was recommending surgery within 3 days. “We didn’t know the competency level, it could have been great, but we didn’t speak the language. It just didn’t look like a good situation.”

The Moningers are members of Air Ambulance Card, which transports sick or injured members to the US or Canadian hospital of their choice when they are hospitalized 150 miles or more from home, anywhere in the world. “I went back to the hotel and got on the phone right away. I told them I had the card and gave him the number and he said, ‘Well, that’s why you belong to Air Ambulance Card.’”

Air Ambulance Card dispatched a jet and a medical crew that flew the Moninger’s back home to Colorado, where Sally had surgery and physical therapy. The ability to come home for surgery not only gave the Moningers peace of mind, it also saved them from the cost and hassle of an unplanned stay in Toledo, Spain. Bill Moninger says it turned their experience from a nightmare to what he calls a ‘relatively pleasant’ experience. “When I called Air Ambulance Card and told them what was going on they didn’t hesitate to say that’s why you have this coverage and we’ll get the wheels rolling for you, and they did.”

Air Ambulance Card® flies sick or injured members home to the US or Canadian hospital of their choice when they are hospitalized 150 miles or more from home, domestically or internationally. The membership program offers services for a period of one year to families or individuals, and corporate accounts. Air Ambulance Card memberships are available to residents of the U.S. and Canada and cost $195 per year for individuals and $295 per year for families.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (February 11, 2010) – Medical evacuation membership program Air Ambulance Card is releasing its Spring Break 2010 Travel Safety Tips. The advice is compiled from years of transport of sick and injured travelers. “This is what we’d be telling our own kids if they were traveling for spring break this year,” said Air Ambulance Card Managing Director Stan Bradley. More details can be found online at www.AirAmbulanceCard.com/blog.

Register International Travel with the State Department, https://travelregistration.state.gov in case of a family emergency in the U.S. or a crisis where you are.

Know the Law. While in a foreign country, you are subject to its laws. Research the country online, http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/safety/safety_2836.html

Avoid Drugs and Limit Alcohol. Many travelers are injured or killed in car accidents and other incidents involving alcohol and/or drug use. Avoid illegal drugs and limit legal alcohol consumption.

Be Watchful. Americans have been sexually assaulted or robbed because they found themselves in unfamiliar locales, were incapable of protecting themselves because of drug or alcohol use or were the victim of a “date rape” drug.

Road Rules. Motor vehicles accidents are the most common cause of death of Americans overseas after natural causes. Standards of safety overseas may differ from those in the U. S.

Water Warning. Do not dive into unknown bodies of water. Hidden rocks or shallow depths can cause injury or death. Only rent equipment like scooters, jet-skis or scuba gear from reputable operators and insist on sufficient training.

Think About Emergencies Now. U.S. medical insurance generally is not accepted outside the United States. Check to see if your carrier will reimburse you and consider a short term foreign travel policy if not. Medical evacuation to the U.S. can cost more than $50,000. Consider a medical evacuation membership plan and read the fine print to be sure it will get you to the hospital OF YOUR CHOICE. www.AirAmbulanceCard.com.

Check Medications. Make sure all medicines are in bottles with drug store labels. Carry copies of the prescriptions and make sure you have enough to last the trip.

Have duplicates of travel documents. Leave a copy of your passport and itinerary at home. Do not carry documents, money and credit cards in the same pocket.

Establish a Routine. Let everyone know where you will be. Plan regular check in times and stick to them.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (September 1, 2009) – Air Ambulance Card flew a California man home for treatment after he experienced heart trouble while vacationing in Mexico. The member and his wife were vacationing in Cancun when he went to the hospital with what doctors termed a “cardiac event.” The member’s wife contacted Air Ambulance Card, which began the process of transporting him to Hoag Memorial Presbyterian Hospital in Newport Beach, California. A medical crew picked him up from the Mexican hospital at 10:00am and he was in a bed at Hoag Memorial by 6:40pm that evening.

“He was being treated in public ICU in Mexico. We wanted to be home, he wanted to be treated by his own doctors,” said the member’s wife.

“When a patient is in a foreign hospital, they simply want to come home,” said Sam Jackson, Managing Director of Air Ambulance Card. “Not only do we provide them that comfort, our members enjoy a significant financial protection. This flight from Mexico would have cost $31,000 thousand of dollars if Mr. Soliman had to pay for it out of pocket.”

Air Ambulance Card® flies sick or injured members home to the US or Canadian hospital of their choice when they are hospitalized 150 miles or more from home, domestically or internationally.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (July 14, 2009) – Faculty and staff of The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) have begun enrolling in Birmingham-based Air Ambulance Card®’s membership program. UNMC now requires all faculty and staff traveling outside of the continental US on official business to purchase the plans at special rates that allow employees to cover their families at no extra charge. Under the partnership, members who are sick or injured 150 miles or more from home, domestically or internationally, will be flown home to the hospital of their choice.

Air Ambulance Card memberships have been included as a part of the UNMC Private Medical Practice program for two years. UNMC doctors sought out the coverage after arranging a patient’s air medical transport from Italy that cost $150,000. “We know the serious financial risk associated with travel without medical evacuation coverage,” said UNMC’s Keith Swarts. “These memberships protect the staff, protect their families and protect the medical center from the financial hardships that accompany the kinds of medical emergencies we see every day.”

UNMC faculty and staff can purchase discounted Air Ambulance Card memberships online using their UNMC email address at www.AirAmbulanceCard.com/UNMC. Employees can use UNMC’s internal procurement card or can purchase the membership personally by using their own credit card. “With these memberships, UNMC employees and their families can travel with the peace of mind of knowing if something goes wrong, we’ll be there to bring them home,” said Stan Bradley, managing director of Air Ambulance Card.

UNMC is the only public health science center in the state. Through their commitment to education, research, patient care and outreach, UNMC and its hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center, have established themselves as one of the country’s leading centers in cancer, transplantation biology, bioterrorism preparedness, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, genetics, biomedical technology and ophthalmology. UNMC’s physician practice group, UNMC Physicians, includes 513 physicians in 50 specialties and subspecialties who practice primarily in The Nebraska Medical Center. For more information, go to UNMC’s Web site at www.unmc.edu.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
“In a medical emergency, our patients know they have instant access to physicians who are familiar with their personal medical records. With Air Ambulance Card we are able to take that peace of mind one step further, bringing the patient home to the hospital of their choice,” said WorldClinic Director Dr. Dan Carlin.

Based in New England, WorldClinic is a unique medical practice dedicated to providing exceptional medical and telemedical care to an exclusive group of corporate executives, individuals and families whose lifestyle may require immediate access to a personal doctor for any health issue, at any hour, from anywhere in the world.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (March 10, 2009) – The North Carolina Dental Society (NCDS) has endorsed Air Ambulance Card® and is partnering with the company to offer society members discounted medical evacuation. Under the partnership, members who are sick or injured 150 miles or more from home, domestically or internationally, will be flown home to the hospital of their choice.

“We found out about this program through a member who used the service when his wife was injured on a trip to Costa Rica,” said NCDS Executive Director Dr. Alec Parker. “If one of our members was injured while traveling, either away at a conference or on a family vacation, an extended absence could have a dramatic effect on their practice.”

NCDS members can purchase discounted Air Ambulance Card memberships through the society’s website, www.NCDental.org. “Membership in Air Ambulance Card eliminates concerns about the high cost of a medical flight. Members can fly home to be treated by doctors they know at a hospital they trust, and they never receive a bill or file a claim form,” said Stan Bradley, managing director of Air Ambulance Card.

The North Carolina Dental Society is an unincorporated association founded in 1856, whose primary constitutional objectives are “… to encourage the improvement of the oral health of the public, to promote the art and science of dentistry and encourage the maintenance of high standards of professional competence and practice, and to represent the interests of the members of the dental profession and the public which it serves.” More information at www.NCDental.org.

Air Ambulance Card provides travelers with prepaid hospital-to-hospital air ambulance service, domestically and abroad. The membership program offers services for a period of one year to families or individuals, and corporate accounts. Air Ambulance Card memberships are available to residents of the U.S. and Canada and cost $195 per year for individuals and $295 per year for families.
