REAL ID and Air Travel
The REAL ID Act (passed by Congress in 2005) prohibits federal agencies, like TSA, from
accepting licenses and identification cards for official purposes from states that do not meet these standards.
What does that mean?
Beginning January 22, 2018, you will not be able to use your driver’s licenses or state IDs to fly if the state you live in is not in compliance
with the REAL ID Act. States may ask for an extension in order to become compliant but EVERY state must comply by October 1, 2020.
Travelers out of Lehigh Valley International Airport now have access to TSA Pre✓®
Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE) is now participating in the TSA Pre✓®
program, which allows travelers in the program to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on.
